Its a new year and Poor Angus is celebrating with many new things: come to one of our upcoming January shows to hear plenty of new music, PLUS something else new that you can only learn about if you come see is live!

We are already hard at work booking shows for the spring and summer, and our fans can anticipate lots of announcements in the coming months.

Its been a great summer of visiting some of North America's finest festivals and events, and Poor Angus has two more shows before fall:

First, join us in Hamilton at The Pearl Company for a hometown show in this one of a kind space on Sept. 8th at 8:00pm. Check out The Pearl Company Website for tickets and more information. Next, its off to the Trenton Scottish Irish Festival on Sept. 9th-10th where we will be playing along with the Mudmen.

Poor Angus is ready for a slew of summer shows. If you live in Kincardine, Detroit, Uxbridge, Toronto, Trenton, or anywhere within driving distance, why not come join us at one of the festivals or events on our summer tour? Next up is the St. Andrew's Society of Detroit Highland Games in Livonia, Michigan. Along with Poor Angus, catch The Kreellers, The Rogues, and Carl Peterson.

We're playing The Spoke at the University of Western Ontario for their "Tour de Frost" launch party. This week-long event pits teams of students against each other in feats of the mind and body, all to see who will win the Tour de Frost cup and the grand prize. We look forward to heading back to school for some re-education ourselves. Also, stay tuned as we announce more shows for summer, and very importantly, our shows for St. Paddy's week. Its going to be a blast!

Happy New Year! First off, thanks to the hordes of people who came to see us play at the Augusta House in Hamilton. What an amazing night!

New Shows: North and South

We are preparing to travel across North America: First we fly to Thunder Bay in the great white north for a show with the Sleeping Giant Folk Society on March 6th. Then its off to Florida for the annual St. Patrick's Festival put on by the city of Ocala.

"PRIME CUTS" wins 2009 HMA

On Sunday, 6 December, Poor Angus' second album "Prime Cuts" won the Arcelor-Mittal Hamilton Music Award for Folk/Traditional Album of the Year for 2009. Poor Angus would like to thank the selection committee, our fellow nominees and all our fans. We would also like to congratulate all the other winners at the awards, particularly our friends Steve Sinnicks, Steve Strongman, Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland and Jesse O'Brien. We are going to have to work hard to maintain the standard we have set for ourselves, and anticipate more award winning albums for you to enjoy.

Poor Angus at Hamilton Place Studio Theatre

Poor Angus is headlining the Hamilton Music Awards Four Band Showcase at the Hamilton Place Studio Theatre, Saturday night, the 5th of December. Show begins at 9:30pm. Tickets are $12 This will be an excellent evening and opportunity to check out four great bands in one spot. This is in preparation for the Hamilon Music Awards on Sunday, in which Poor Angus was nominated for an award in the Folk Traditional Recording of the year category.

Nov. 24th: Dunedin Celtic Festival

The Dunedin Celtic Festival featured Poor Angus, Lucid Druid, and Seven Nations on a sunny day, and beer-filled evening of fun.
Poor Angus were very well received, and were lucky not to run out of CD's! The boys were thrilled to meet so many great people, and are looking forward to coming back to Florida soon. Check out the photos of the show, and other Florida adventures.

Poor Angus has again been nominated for the Arcelor Mittal Hamilton Music Awards. This year we are nominated in the Traditional Recording of the Year catagory. In addition, our own Andrew Bryan has been nominated for Special Instrumentalist of the Year! The awards will be held Sunday Dec 6th at the McIntyre Theatre at Mohawk College. Wish us luck!

Poor Angus Track Selected for "Songs of Canada" Anthology

"How Many Are The Days" a song written by Scott, and released on our first album, has been selected by the "Association of Artists For A Better World" anthology. Poor Angus is thrilled to be a part of this important project. Scott's song brings attention to the plight of the world's oceans through over-fishing and the industrialization of the fishing industry. The anthology is being submitted for JUNO consideration, and will showcase our commitment to strong original songwriting as well as our ability to interpret traditional Scottish, Irish and east coast music.

We were thrilled to be asked to play the Alexander Keith's Birthday Party at the Rose and Crown in Toronto. Little did we know, this was no ordinary pub party. This party was in fact a massive pub crawl involving hundreds of people moving between five pubs in buses.

Everyone started off at the Rose and Crown where we opened up the evening with a quick set, and then it was into the buses to visit other pubs around Toronto who were also celebrating Keith's Birthday. Every hour, a new group of revelers came through the door ready to celebrate.

Around 11pm, all of the buses came back to the Rose and Crown, and the slightly inebriated guests were ready to hit the dance floor. We played until the wee hours, enjoying Keiths, a giant birthday cake, and wonderful food provided by the great people at the Rose and Crown. The night got progressively crazier, and by the end the dancefloor was a gyrating mass of bodies.

It should be mentioned we also had some fans drive up from St. Catherines who had seen us at the Rotary Ribfest there this summer, and wanted to see us again. They stayed late, which tells me they probably had a good time. Also, a happy couple who had us play at their wedding came with a group of friends; I was quite impressed with their party attitude, considering they worked early in the morning.

All in all, a great night was had by all....we even managed to get some videos of the mayhem which will soon be posted to www.youtube.com. For photos of the night CLICK HERE! Next up for us is Scotchtoberfest this Saturday Oct. 10th. The show will feature a us along with Liam McGlashon, the Glengarry Bhoys,the Hamilton Police Pipe Band and the Schiehallion Dancers. Hope to see you there!
